Dr.
Jeffrey Hunter is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist practicing
with
Heaton Eye Associates since
1996. He graduated from the University of
Texas at Houston Medical
School, and continued postgraduate training in
Ophthalmology at the University
of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He also received
training at Baylor University
Medical
Center in Dallas.
Dr. Hunter completed additional
advanced training in Pediatric
Ophthalmology and Adult
Strabismus
(eye muscle disorders),
completing his
fellowship at Duke University
in Durham,
North Carolina.

Because of his compassion for children, Dr. Hunter specializes in Pediatric Ophthalmology
and was
East Texas’ first full-time, fellowship-trained Pediatric Ophthalmologist.
Dr. Hunter works with children from birth to adolescence, providing
services ranging
from regular eye exams to eye muscle surgery designed to correct misaligned eyes.
Dr. Hunter is also
trained to treat congenital malformations of the eye such as pediatric glaucoma
or cataracts, as well as
treating adults with double vision or eye muscle disorders.
His
dedication to children
and their specific vision problems is well known in this area,
as is his enthusiasm for child safety. Don’t be surprised
if Dr. Hunter reminds you about using a child safety
seat and buckling your own safety belt. He has devoted his time and medical
skill as a surgeon for
Mercy Ships, an international medical missions organization, and is a member
of the Board for Young
Life. He is also the treasurer of the Texas Society for Pediatric Ophthalmology,
a member of the
Society to Prevent Blindness, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
As
a parent of four,
I am continually reminded of how precious each child is. I am in a position
of great responsibility and I am obligated to share my love for each child
who comes to see me.
