If you have been diagnosed with cataracts and are undergoing cataract surgery, you have an option on the lens implant you choose for your vision. If you elect to have cataract surgery using a basic lens implant, chances are you’ll be very happy. But, you’ll most likely need to wear glasses driving and reading. 

Beyond Basic Cataract Surgery

If your desire is to reduce the need for glasses while reading a newspaper, driving at night, working on a computer or seeing the dinner menu, then a Lifestyle Lens implant might be for you.

At Heaton Eye Associates, we offer a wide-range of Lifestyle Lens implants which can greatly improve your vision to see near, far and everything in-between. 

Most patients who receive a Lifestyle Lens implant can do most things, most of the time without glasses!

Standard Lens

Option One: 

Standard Lens Implants

  • • Great vision with glasses 
  • • Removes cloudy lens and replaces with a new, clearer one, reducing visual haze. 
  • • Typically still requires the use of glasses or contacts for distance, intermediate, and near vision.
Reading Glasses Only

Option Two: 

Reading Glasses Only

  • • Provides excellent distance vision. 
  • • Reading glasses are required. 
  • • If necessary to fine-tune your distance vision, LASIK is included at 3 months post-operatively at no cost.
Standard Lens

Option Three: 

Visual Freedom With Lifestyle Lenses 

  • • Typically allows freedom from glasses for 85% of activities. Reading glasses may need to be worn occasionally. 
  • • Utilize a Lifestyle Lens implant such as Crystalens®, ReSTOR® , ReZoom® or Tecnis® Multifocal implants. 
  • • If necessary to fine-tune your vision, LASIK is included at 3 months post-operatively at no cost.

Which Lens Implant Is Best For You? 

Lifestyle Lenses will last a lifetime. Thankfully, most people will be very happy with whatever lens implant choice they make. The Crystalens, TECNIS,TORIC and ReSTOR lenses have all been thoroughly  tested by the FDA prior to approval. For most people, any lenses will provide excellent results. Refractive Lens Exchange

In some cases, patients might not qualify for LASIK or other refractive procedures to correct their nearsightedness or farsightedness. An alternative is the highly effective Lens Exchange. This treatment has opened doors to many patients who might otherwise not enjoy life without glasses or contacts.

Who is a candidate?

Our doctors recommend Refractive Lens Exchange to patients who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Have cataracts in the early stages and want to rid their lifestyle of glasses.
  • Have a high prescription that is outside the laser parameters for farsightedness, or nearsightedness. 

How does it work?

Your surgeon removes the natural lens of the eye and replaces it with a new, pre-calculated lens implant. For a patient who has cataracts developing, Refractive Lens Exchange may be the answer to several problems. By removing the cataract and replacing it with a lens implant, patients find their vision restored and a decreased dependency on glasses and contact lenses. Patients who qualify for the Refractive Lens Exchange procedure may find they do not meet the guidelines set by their insurance companies and so there is often no coverage for the surgery.

Refractive Lens Exchange can also be an excellent choice for patients with high diopters of refractive error that don’t have cataracts,
